Armenia is a historically rich, landlocked Caucasus nation, recognized for its deep Christian roots. The culture highly values family, respect for elders, and social hospitality, meaning visitors should anticipate engaging in frequent social interactions and answering direct personal questions.

• When visiting churches, dress modestly (avoid shorts, miniskirts, or sleeveless tops).
• Be prepared for staring; it usually indicates curiosity, not hostility.
• Understand that family ties and community matters are highly valued.
• Engage in small talk before discussing serious topics.
• Exercise caution when discussing the Armenian Genocide or the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and avoid mentioning Turkey.
• Be attentive to guests, even if their arrival is unexpected.
• Show respect for women and practice gentlemanly courtesy when interacting with men. Always yield seats to elders. When visiting homes, bring a small gift, and accept hospitality (even if it involves food) without outright refusal. Be prepared for unannounced guests, as dropping by unannounced is common, and always begin conversations with small talk.
