Belarus has a history dating back to the 10th century CE and features preserved castles, natural sites, and Soviet heritage. It maintains an open border and close ties with Russia.

• New Year Day (January 1st) is the most significant national holiday for most Belarusians.
• Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas on January 7th (following the Julian calendar).
• Woman's Day (March 8th) is a significant celebration.
• The Workers' Festival (May 1st) was historically important but is less significant now.
• Belarusian culture is generally traditional; open friendliness towards strangers may be misinterpreted, and reserved communication is appreciated. Extreme caution and respect are required when discussing sensitive topics such as politics or World War II. Be aware that the official national flag may be a sensitive topic for some segments of the diaspora.
