• Other recognized national holidays include Liberation Day (March 3), International Workers' Day (May 1), Feast of St. George (May 6), and Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture (May 24).
• Bulgarian culture is generally friendly, but be aware that engaging in small talk with service staff might be ignored. Note the regional difference in gestures: a nod typically signals 'No,' and a head shake means 'Yes.' As a conservative country, travelers should be discreet regarding LGBT+ issues. Bulgarians are also proud that the Bulgarian language was the first Slavic language to adopt the Cyrillic alphabet.
