📣 Traveler notes
Cuba is the largest Caribbean island, offering a rich blend of history, colonial architecture, and culture. Visitors should be aware of the specific cultural norms and local economic conditions due to the country's history and current political status.
- January 1: Triumph of the Revolution
- January 2: Victory of the Armed Forces Day
- Good Friday (variable)
- May 1: Labor Day
- July 25: Commemoration of the Assault of the Moncada Garrison
- Avoid discussing local politics, as this can make Cubans uncomfortable. Respect local customs by accepting invitations to homes, which is considered a high honor. Support private local enterprises (such as *casas particulares* or local restaurants) to benefit the community.
About this holiday
The Cuban War of Independence (1895–1898) was the final of three wars Cuba fought against Spain. The country features nine World Heritage Sites, colonial architecture, and a distinct cultural history. Since the Cuban Revolution of 1959, Cuba has operated under a communist government and is subject to a US embargo.
