• The state observes several national holidays besides Christmas, New Year's Day, and Easter.
• Use common greetings such as "dobar den." Note that locals may not engage in prolonged small talk in shops. Be aware that nodding can mean 'No' and shaking the head can mean 'Yes.' Exercise respect regarding Bulgarian history and identity, including the Cyrillic alphabet.
