Boxing Day (or Offering Day) is a public holiday celebrated on December 26th, the day after Christmas. Though its original purpose involved donating gifts to the poor, it is now part of the Christmas festivities. The holiday, which is generally concurrent with Saint Stephen's Day, may occasionally be shifted to December 27th or 28th to ensure it falls on a weekday. The holiday is observed in Guyana, an English-speaking Commonwealth nation.
