Vietnam is a rapidly developing Southeast Asian country rich in culture and natural attractions. While less developed as a tourist destination than some neighbors, it is undergoing significant economic growth driven by its young population.

• Major holidays (like Tết and Reunification Day) can lead to closures of shops and restaurants, and transportation can be heavily impacted.
• While public festivities occur, major holidays are often observed as private family celebrations.
• Be aware that local customs sometimes include asking personal questions (e.g., age, marital status); treating these as harmless curiosity is advised.
• Show respect to elders by treating them with deference. Public displays of affection are generally discouraged. Dress conservatively, covering shoulders and knees, especially when visiting temples or local areas. When exchanging business cards, use both hands. Avoid discussing politically sensitive topics, such as disputes in the South China Sea, and remember that minimizing embarrassment ('saving face') is important.
