📣 Conseils aux voyageurs
Australia is famous for its diverse natural environments, including wide open spaces, beaches, deserts, and the Outback, but it is also highly urbanized with major cosmopolitan cities like Sydney. The country has a deep Indigenous history (over 65,000 years) and is characterized by a mix of traditional culture and global immigration.
- New Year's Day (January 1st) is a national holiday.
- Australia Day (January 26th) marks the anniversary of the First Fleet's landing in Sydney Cove.
- The Easter weekend (Good Friday through Easter Monday) is a four-day long weekend in March or April, resulting in high demand for bookings.
- Be respectful of Indigenous Australian culture and land. Many Indigenous lands require permission or permits, and certain areas are strictly off-limits. Never refer to sacred sites by inappropriate names (e.g., using 'Ayers Rock' for Uluru). While casual attire is common in warm weather, dressing modestly (covering shoulders/knees) is advisable when visiting places of worship. When interacting with locals, treat service workers as equals. Be mindful that complaining or mocking Australian culture is generally viewed negatively. On the day of ANZAC Day (April 25th), respect for military sacrifice is critical, and perceived insults can lead to legal issues.
