Junkanoo, a major Bahamian festival, is a street carnival held on Boxing Day (December 26) and New Year's Day (January 1).
Participants 'rush' through towns, especially Nassau, wearing spectacular, disposable costumes made from crepe paper.
The music combines African rhythms with loud brass and cowbells.
Costumes are disposed of in the streets following the celebration, which can be viewed as unique souvenirs.
While Bahamians are generally good-natured, visitors are expected to show respect.
