📣 Conseils aux voyageurs

Germany offers a diverse landscape and rich cultural heritage, blending old-world charm with modern innovation. Visitors can experience varied regional cultures, historical sites, and vibrant urban centers across the country's diverse geography.

  • Public holidays (Feiertag) typically result in closed retail shops and reduced public transport schedules.
  • Holiday observations vary by state, often depending on regional religious history.
  • Good Friday is a 'silent holiday' in many states with restricted festivities.
  • Strict laws prohibit the use of Nazi-era symbols or slogans in any context.
  • Alcohol consumption in public may be restricted or prohibited in specific city zones.
  • Public transport and trains are highly valued; delays are often viewed as significant inconveniences.
  • Germans value direct communication, honesty, and punctuality; in professional settings, being on time is a requirement rather than a courtesy. Formal titles (e.g., 'Herr/Frau') and the formal pronoun 'Sie' are standard unless invited to use first names. Respect for local rules is important, especially regarding public behavior at historical sites and strict laws against Nazi-era symbols. Smoking is generally prohibited in indoor public spaces like restaurants and on all public transport.

À propos de ce jour férié

The High Festival of Peace (Augsburg Peace Festival) is celebrated annually on August 8th. Originally established in 1650 to mark the end of Recatholicization measures during the Thirty Years' War, it is now a public holiday exclusive to the city of Augsburg. It was added to the German UNESCO register of intangible cultural heritage in 2018.
