Latvia, a Baltic state, offers varied sights, including the World Heritage Old Town of Riga and a 500 km unspoilt sea coast. Attractions also feature nature trails, the military history of Liepāja, the UNESCO site of Kuldīga, and the medieval ruins of Cēsis.
- New Year's Eve (Jaunā Gada svētki): Major celebrations occur on December 31 - January 1.
- Easter (Lieldienas): Annual traditional events, such as egg fights, are observed in April.
- Summer Solstice (Vasaras saulgrieži): Traditional celebrations are hosted in various locations, including Sigulda.
- Latvians are generally reserved and value personal space; casual greetings with strangers are uncommon. Avoid discussing salaries, finances, or deeply held political/religious beliefs in public. Littering is illegal. Thoughtful acts, such as holding doors, are appreciated.
