Lithuania is a Baltic state in Northeast Europe. It is the largest of the three Baltic states (65,300 km²) and has a population of about 2.9 million. The capital is Vilnius, with other major cities including Kaunas and Klaipėda. Lithuania regained independence in 1990.

• Restitution of Independence (Mar 11): Marks independence from the Soviet Union.
• St. John's Day (Jun 24): Celebrated with midsummer and pagan traditions.
• Statehood Day (Jul 6): Commemorates Mindaugas's coronation in 1253.
• Christmas (Dec 25): A major national holiday.
• The culture remains quite traditional and conservative, despite Vilnius being a cosmopolitan center. Roman Catholicism is the dominant religion. Travelers should be mindful of the sensitivity surrounding Lithuanian national identity, particularly following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
