📣 Conseils aux voyageurs
Moldova is a landlocked country situated between Romania and Ukraine, known for its wines and monasteries. Tours of wineries and monasteries can be arranged from the capital, Chișinău.
- Political discussions are often polarizing; exercise caution regarding the EU-Russia relationship.
- Do not initiate conversations about the unification of Romania and Moldova, especially with pro-Russian individuals.
- Refrain from discussing the Transnistria conflict, as it is highly sensitive.
- Be mindful of discussions regarding Moldova's relationship with Russia and potential EU membership, particularly in Gagauzia and Transnistria.
- While Romanian is the official language, 'Moldovan' may be used for both the people and the language.
- Expect direct and strong opinions when discussing political matters.
- Be aware that locals may show curiosity, including staring. If approached by scammers, ignore them or politely tell them to leave. In general, women are respected in Moldovan society. In rural areas, women are socially expected not to smoke or consume alcohol.
