📣 Conseils aux voyageurs
Paraguay is a small South American nation known for its large rivers, vast wilderness, and blend of indigenous and European histories. While tourist attractions are limited, visitors can experience colonial history, mission ruins, and a rich South American culture.
- Areté Guazú (Big Festival): Three-day indigenous celebrations held in various locations during February/March.
- Expo Rodeo Trébol: Major rodeo and exhibition event in the Chaco, typically mid-August in Loma Plata.
- Transchaco rally: Significant sports event affecting the Central Chaco Region, usually in late September.
- Patience is advised, as appointments and transportation may run 10–20 minutes late. Show genuine interest in Paraguayan culture and history. It is customary to accept and praise food offered. Greetings for men are typically handshakes; for women, or between genders, a handshake and a kiss on each cheek are common. Approach political or sensitive historical topics (such as the Stroessner dictatorship) with caution and respect.
