Romania is a diverse country featuring scenic mountains, unspoiled rural areas, and historic cities. Since joining the EU in 2007, it has developed significantly and manages one natural and six cultural UNESCO World Heritage sites.

• Showing respect for the elderly is highly valued.
• If hosts offer items, polite refusal may require persistence.
• Use formal greetings ('Bună ziua,' 'Bună dimineața,' 'Bună seara') when appropriate.
• Maintain calm public behavior, even while drinking.
• Avoid linking Romanian culture or language to neighboring Slavic, Turkish, or Albanian groups.
• Do not discuss sensitive historical topics, such as Russian or former Soviet affiliations, or ethnic tensions.
• When entering a gathering or room, shake hands. Remove shoes when visiting a home. Yield to women, the elderly, and pregnant women on public transport. Use the formal greeting 'Bună ziua' ('Good day') when greeting friends or strangers.
