In mountainous areas, greeting people with 'Dober dan' (Good day) and wishing them good luck ('Srečno') upon departure is customary.
Basic Slovenian phrases are appreciated. When visiting homes, remove shoes and bring wine. A standard greeting is a handshake, though hugging and kissing are common among friends. Complimenting a meal is customary before being asked.
