Uganda is known for its diverse concentration of African fauna, including the endangered mountain gorilla and common chimpanzee. It was formerly nicknamed the "Pearl of Africa."

  • Dress modestly, particularly outside major tourist zones.
  • Use a handshake as the primary greeting method.
  • Be respectful when discussing local religions.
  • Avoid criticizing or discussing local religions.
  • Understand that domestic violence and poverty are noted social issues.
  • Avoid wearing ostentatious jewelry.
  • Ugandan society is generally conservative and primarily Christian/Muslim. Dress modestly (trousers or long skirts are recommended, especially outside tourist centers). Greetings are usually done with a handshake. Respect local religious customs; avoid discussing religion from a secular viewpoint.
