Greece offers a profoundly historic and culturally rich experience. While Greeks are known for their hospitality and enjoyment of leisure, they also possess a strong work ethic. Be aware of local customs regarding personal space and public behavior.

• The Greek Orthodox Church is central to national identity, but modern Greek society is generally secular.
• Public etiquette encourages initiating greetings and engaging in small talk.
• Certain political, historical, and national topics (e.g., Macedonia, the debt crisis, Greece's relationship with Turkey) are sensitive and should be discussed with care.
• Seasonal fire bans (May 1 to October 31) strictly prohibit all outdoor fire-starting activities (including campfires, barbecues, and fireworks).
• Public places, including restaurants and cafes, have strict smoking bans.
• Public modesty is generally respected; nudity or toplessness are not accepted outside specific tourist zones.
• Cultural interactions are informal; initiating conversations is encouraged. Showing respect to elders and valuing loyalty and transparency are important. While public displays of affection or nudity are generally uncommon outside designated tourist areas, appropriate dress is advised for religious sites (covering shoulders and knees).
