• Public holidays include various religious festivals, many of which are localized (e.g., Hindu festivals in Bali).
• Most public holidays are observed by all Indonesian citizens, regardless of their religion.
• Chinese New Year (Tahun Baru Imlek) festivals are generally concentrated in Chinese-populated areas.
• During Nyepi (Hindu New Year), travelers should avoid Bali, as the entire island shuts down (including airports and ports).
• Good Friday (Wafat Isa Al-Masih) is a significant observation, particularly noted by Catholic communities on Flores Island.
• When eating with hands, use only the right hand, as the left is considered unclean. While various utensils (chopsticks, forks, spoons) are used generally, it is recommended to use them specifically in upscale or formal dining settings.
