About this holiday
Saint Vitalian's Day commemorates Pope Vitalian, who was the Bishop of Rome from July 30, 657, until his death in 672. His papacy involved resolving the conflict over Monothelitism between the papacy and the imperial government in Constantinople, and witnessed the Archbishopric of Ravenna separate from papal authority.
