About this holiday
This day commemorates Saints Hermagoras and Fortunatus. Hermagoras was recognized as the first bishop of Aquileia (northern Italy). According to Christian tradition, he and his deacon Fortunatus were arrested by Sebastius, a representative of Nero, after evangelizing the area. They were subsequently tortured and executed.
