Lithuania is a large, low-lying, primarily agricultural nation in northeastern Europe, bordered by Latvia, Belarus, Poland, Kaliningrad (Russia), and the Baltic Sea. The country regained independence from the Soviet Union in 1990.

• February 16: Independence Day (commemorates freedom from the Russian Empire in 1918).
• March 11: Restitution of Independence (marks the restoration of independence from the Soviet Union).
• June 24: St John's Day (a celebration often associated with pagan midsummer traditions).
• July 6: Statehood Day (commemorates Mindaugas's coronation in 1253).
• December 25: Christmas.
• While Vilnius is cosmopolitan, the culture retains traditional and conservative elements. Roman Catholicism is the main religion, and Lithuanian national symbols are highly valued, especially since the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
