Visitors can experience a blend of European and indigenous cultures, including colonial history and mission ruins, despite lacking widely advertised tourist infrastructure.

• Areté Guazú (Big Festival): An annual three-day indigenous celebration (February/March) held in various locations, such as Filadelfia and Mariscal Estigarribia.
• Expo Rodeo Trébol: The largest rodeo and expo event in the Chaco, typically held in mid-August in Loma Plata.
• Transchaco rally: A significant sporting event occurring in the Central Chaco Region late in September.
• Punctuality is relaxed; delays should be expected for appointments, flights, and buses. Greetings usually involve handshakes for men, and cheek kisses for men/women or two women. Showing genuine interest in local culture is appreciated; public critique of government or politicians, and discussion of the Alfredo Stroessner dictatorship, require extreme caution.
