Romania offers diverse natural and cultural attractions, including scenic mountains, rural areas, historic cities, and a major capital. Since joining the EU in 2007, the country has undergone significant development and boasts seven UNESCO World Heritage sites (one natural, six cultural).

• Be mindful of discussing ethnic tensions or historical figures.
• Do not confuse ethnic Romanians with the Roma people.
• Treat Romania as a developed country, rather than comparing it to the Balkan region or Russia.
• Avoid assuming Romania was part of the Russian Empire or the Soviet Union.
• Be aware of appropriate greetings: Use "Bună ziua" (Good day) generally, with variations for mornings and evenings.
• Accept that host insistence is a gesture of politeness when refusing something.
• Upon greeting, handshakes are common, though cheek kissing may occur in some traditions. When visiting homes, remove your shoes. Courtesy includes allowing women to pass first and offering seats to the elderly, pregnant women, or children. It is polite for hosts to insist when refusing something.
