Travelers should prepare for potential social probing questions and observe local customs, particularly regarding public displays of affection and dress code.

• Major holidays, such as Tết (Lunar New Year), result in significant disruptions: transportation services, shops, and restaurants frequently close, especially in major cities.
• During holidays, public festivals are organized in cities, but the celebration is primarily a private, family observance.
• Book accommodation and transportation far in advance during major public holidays (e.g., May 1, September 2).
• Observe local customs: remove shoes before entering homes/temples, and enter/exit temples using the specified gates.
• While many services may be closed during holidays, some foreign-oriented establishments and historical sites remain operational.
• Be mindful of local superstitions, such as avoiding chopsticks placed upright in rice or taking photos of odd-numbered groups.
• Show respect and deference to elders. Be aware that public displays of affection are generally discouraged. Dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees, especially when visiting temples or in conservative settings. When exchanging business cards, use both hands.
