📣 Traveler notes

Puerto Rico is a Caribbean island known for white sandy beaches, snorkeling, and bioluminescent bays. Beyond its natural beauty, the island is a cultural mix influenced by Spanish-American heritage, providing rich local experiences and cuisine.

  • Kissing a female on one cheek is a common greeting.
  • Avoid political discussions regarding Puerto Rico's status.
  • Showing respect to the elderly is appreciated.
  • Public displays of affection may attract attention.
  • Greeting people often involves physical affection; kissing a female on one cheek is customary. While public affection may draw attention, openly hostile interactions are rare. Visitors should avoid discussing the island's political status or parties to prevent disputes.

About this holiday

The Puerto Rican Day Parade, held annually on the second Sunday of June in NYC, is the oldest and longest-running Latino heritage parade on 5th Avenue. It celebrates the Puerto Rican community and all Puerto Rican descendants in the U.S. mainland.
