Romania is a nation with diverse natural beauty, including scenic mountains and rural areas, coupled with a rich cultural heritage visible in its historic cities. Since joining the EU in 2007, the country has developed significantly and boasts seven UNESCO sites (one natural and six cultural).

• Basic greetings are useful: 'Bună ziua' (Good day) is general, while 'Bună dimineața' and 'Bună seara' are for mornings and evenings.
• Proper public demeanor and respect for elders are highly valued.
• Avoid discussing ethnicity or history with generalizations, especially regarding Russia, the former Soviet Bloc, or inter-ethnic tensions.
• Note that most of Romania lies outside the Balkan Peninsula, so do not classify it solely as a Balkan country.
• Be aware of the distinction between Romanians and the Roma people.
• Be mindful that local views on history and politics can be varied.
• Dress appropriately for specific activities (e.g., specific attire for men at beaches). When entering a home, remove your shoes. Common greetings include kissing both cheeks or shaking hands, though traditions vary. Always demonstrate courtesy, particularly toward the elderly and women, by offering seats or allowing them to pass first. Public intoxication is viewed as impolite.
