About this holiday
Swedish National Day is observed annually on June 6th. It commemorates several historical events, including the election of King Gustav Vasa in 1523 and the adoption of the constitutions in 1809 and 1974. It was officially named by the Swedish parliament in 1983 and became a public holiday in 2005.
