Vietnam is a Southeast Asian country noted for its culture, natural beauty, and cuisine. It has undergone rapid economic development since the 1990s. While it may be less tourist-developed than some neighbors, it offers a rich blend of experiences.

• Expect transport and accommodation to be difficult to find and expensive during major holidays (e.g., Tết, May 1st, September 2nd).
• Many shops, restaurants, and services may close during major holidays, limiting dining and shopping options.
• Local life, particularly in big cities, can become very hectic and congested before and during key celebrations.
• While major cities host public festivities, the holiday observance for Vietnamese people is often focused on private, family visits.
• Sensitive political topics (e.g., relations with China, the Vietnam War) should be approached with caution and discretion.
• Be aware that Vietnamese culture highly values respect for elders and the avoidance of causing public embarrassment.
• Dress modestly and conservatively, especially when visiting temples (cover shoulders and knees). When giving or receiving business cards, use both hands. Public displays of affection are generally discouraged. Be mindful of cultural taboos regarding spirituality and death (e.g., do not place chopsticks upright in rice).
