• National holidays (such as May 1, Sept 2, and April 30) often cause transportation and accommodation to sell out, requiring advance booking.
• Be sensitive when discussing the history of the Vietnam War, avoiding any comments that could be seen as insulting to the sacrifices of either side.
• Be cautious about political discussions, particularly concerning China's territorial claims in the South China Sea.
• Religious sites often require travelers to remove shoes and dress conservatively.
• Local interactions may involve standard, good-natured questions about age, marital status, or family, which are considered normal greetings.
• Generally, expect some sensitivity regarding depictions or discussions of communist symbols, especially when traveling abroad.
• Show respect to elders by maintaining politeness and restraint. Dress modestly and conservatively, particularly when visiting temples or sacred sites (cover knees and shoulders).
