- Locals are generally hospitable. Show respect to elders and those in authority by avoiding public disagreement. Initiating simple greetings in towns and villages is customary. Punctuality is valued, though excessive lateness is considered impolite. Be sensitive to cultural norms and avoid public political discussions. When greeting or exchanging items in rural areas, gently supporting the forearm with the opposite hand is a respectful gesture.
