Sobre este día festivo

The Dormition of the Theotokos celebrates the 'falling asleep' (death) of Mary, the Mother of God, and her being taken up into heaven. It is a major feast observed by Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Eastern Catholic Churches. The date is typically August 15, though churches using the Julian calendar observe it on August 28. The Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates it on the Sunday nearest August 15. In Western Churches, the corresponding feast is known as the Assumption of Mary.
