  • Be mindful of local customs, such as removing shoes when entering private homes.
  • Expect hospitality and occasional insistence on giving gifts or services, which may require gentle refusal.
  • Dress modestly and consider local norms for beach attire.
  • Be sensitive regarding Romania's history (e.g., avoiding unnecessary political comparisons to the Soviet Union or Russian Empire).
  • Understand that local opinions on historical figures and regional affiliations may be varied and sensitive.
  • Respect the diverse ethnic and religious communities within the country.
  • Romanians are hospitable and appreciate good manners. Greetings include kissing both cheeks (common for friends/family) and shaking hands. Showing respect for the elderly and adhering to local customs (e.g., removing shoes when entering a home) is important. It is customary to yield seats or let women pass first in public.

À propos de ce jour férié

The Dormition of the Theotokos celebrates the 'falling asleep' (death) of Mary, the Mother of God, and her being taken up into heaven. It is a major feast observed by Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Eastern Catholic Churches. The date is typically August 15, though churches using the Julian calendar observe it on August 28. The Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates it on the Sunday nearest August 15. In Western Churches, the corresponding feast is known as the Assumption of Mary.
